Fallen Archers were formed
as an offshoot of the GNAS Club Mayflower Archers,
In 1996 Mayflower Archers
held their Winter Indoor Sessions in the riding arena of a local stables,
it was difficult to take the precision requirements of a Portsmouth Round
seriously while accompanied by the sounds of windy horses, and surrounded
by clouds of powdered horse manure , nonetheless our Fallen Archers weathered
the inconveniences until it was time to adjourn to the local hostelry, oops!
meant Clubhouse.
Some said that our gallant band were more interested in the Pint than the
Portsmouth.
Gradually our group drifted away from the delights of GNAS and eventually
one wayward member stumbled upon the delights of 3D shooting,
-the beginning of the end for GNAS,
hallo FIELD ARCHERY!
Initially the sweet FA's endeavored with the joys of EFAA, however with
all the different rules/regulations, clear shooting lanes etc. it seemed that
EFAA were really GNAS in the woods! In time the FA's heard about an underground
rebel movement - ("NFAS", few rules, more fun!, new targets - 3D)
and so went looking for them.
After discovering 3D the FA's found nirvana! - this was real archery
they could empathize with missing life size replicas of animals -
- it moved! I swear it did.............
It was only a matter of time before all the Fallen Archers could be found
on the 3D Course (still looking for arrows). The FA's have matured over the
years and no longer need to write "Home telephone number and Reward for
Safe Return" on their fletching.
Since then many have tried to join - however entry requirements are stringent
and only the correct "lets do it for fun - it's only a game - its your
round! attitude" have enabled qualification as a member of -
